London Lifesavers continue to make great impact Our incredible London Lifesavers have trained over 23,000 Londoners in life-saving CPR and defibrillation training. It only takes a few minutes to learn the simple steps to take when someone is in cardiac arrest, but it could mean the difference between life and death. With 75% of cardiac arrests happening in the home, you could save a loved one by becoming a London Lifesaver. Upcoming pop-up training The next London Lifesaver pop-up training session is on Thursday 27th February, from 10am - 3pm, at Liverpool Street Station. Please take five minutes and join us! This pop-up is part of a bigger event organised by TfL that includes a patient reunion and celebrates the life-saving capability of station defibrillators across the TfL network, promoting the Mayor’s great work to ensure there is a defibrillator at every TfL station. Patient reunion at Liverpool Street Station Paul Benson, a cardiac arrest survivor who was saved by bystander intervention using a defibrillator at the station, will attend the station on Thursday 27th February, along with his wife Lorraine. They will be reuniting with the LAS crews that attended to him at the station. Paul explains that “It’s important that Londoners aren’t frightened to stop and help. It’s very easy to walk past but those who step in can save lives. I was in very good hands and my good Samaritans kept me alive until the paramedics arrived. Without a defibrillator I wouldn’t be here. Thanks to their help I’ve been able to carry on with my life.” This highlights the sheer importance of having defibrillators in such key, high footfall areas, and learning CPR and defibrillator use. Media will be present on the day to help spread awareness of life-saving LAS campaigns, like London Lifesavers and London Heart Starters. London Lifesavers pop-up at Open Iftar event Can't make the event this week? Another upcoming free London Lifesaver pop-up session taking place at Ilford Islamic Centre on Saturday 15th March from 15:30 - 17:30. This will be part of the annual Open Iftar event organised by the LAS Muslim Staff Network, in collaboration with Ilford Islamic Centre. Everyone is welcome to join in with prayers, reflections and talks about Ramadan, followed by Iftar and evening prayers. All are welcome! London Lifesavers School Programme The London Lifesavers run a School Programme which aims to train thousands of school children on how to save a life, as part of the ambitious campaign to create a generation of lifesavers. We have received glowing feedback from staff at various schools we've served, such as, ‘really enjoyed interacting with the team and will be so happy to receive our certificates’ and ‘students have reflected positively on their experience and are really pleased with their badges!’ Students have testified that ‘the experience was fun and it has made us more confident in our abilities. The London Ambulance had experienced teachers that taught us very well’. One student went as far as saying that they ‘feel that this was an experience I won't forget and will help me to be a lifesaver in the future’. Can't attend a pop-up training session? That's okay.
